Senior Final Reflection

 5 Guarantees

I have improved drastically in all of these skills. I improved in technical skills by mastering the Adobe suite, and Collaboration because I am much better at getting along with other students. I improved my leaderships through my feature film role. I still need to work on all guarantees especially technical skills.  I am going to use all guarantees to take to my college career and greater future. E-comm has prepared me for many aspects of my future

 Technical skills

  The first guarantee is technical skills.  During the program we had hands on experience with camera's lighting, and other equipment. The hands on experience helped me gain knowledge on how to use them and even the technical vocabulary. We also used the adobe suite, I am now confident with my premiere, illustrator and photoshop skills. Technical skills are important because this information helps us advance in our career especially if we want to major in anything e-communication related.  I faced the most challenges with this guarantee, using equipment and the adobe suite definitely takes trial and error to succeed.

Communication

 

The next guarantee is communication. We learn this skill through learning how to communicate with clients and our teams. This skill is crucial in any future career. It is important to learn how to communicate with clients or communicate to get connections. Some challenges I faced was miscommunication with some groups when scheduling filming.

Collaboration

We learn collaboration through group work and the feature film. This is important for our futures so we can work efficiently with others within our career. I faced challenges in freshmen year during our final, when group members didn't talk

Leadership

We showcase Leadership when we represent e-comm at open house events. I learned leadership making our feature film , because I had a leadership role.  Leadership skills are important to achieve higher roles in your career.

Project management

We learn project management by achieving deadlines. I have struggled with this throughout the important. This skill is great for college to learn how to reach deadlines.

Top 3 Projects 

Film reel 

 My Film Reel expressed me as a creator. The reel showcased how I like to film happiness and emotion and I concisely tied it to a dream theme. I feel like I did a good job only picking my best shots only. My film reel was diverse, it showcased many projects from sophomore year and onward. I Branded myself with the dream theme and added my contact info at the end. I showcased this reel as a filmmaker branding reel, because I wanted to showcase a variety of things and professionally brand myself with a theme.

  Next time I would work more on exporting my videos properly and next time I would like to stick to a theme like I did for this. From this project I learned more editing skills that I can bring to the table for the next project. In conclusion: I am extremely proud how my reel turned out and hope to showcase it to many.

Feature film

cursed

My Biggest Project as a entertainment student is working on a feature film. Our film this year is "cursed" . This is a horror/ suspense film about a generational cursed. This film has scenes in the 60s, 80s and current time period so, art direction is crucial. I provided some costumes for the characters and helped styled them. Art direction was restricted due to Covid, but I still made it work. One of the hardest scene to art direct was a bedroom scene in the 80s . We had to transform two modern bedrooms to 80s teen bedrooms. I gathered some props from the thrift stores, my dads old stuff and many other crew members brought some stuff too. The rooms were greatly transformed. I got great feedback from this project, and hope to pursue art-directing in the future.

Maruchan commercial

In This project we had to make a commercial for the product of our choosing . My group ended up doing a ramen noodle commercial for maruchan. This only took 2 hours of filming, and a week of class period for pre production and post production. We faced challenges in scheduling a date to film so not everyone showed up to the filming. From this project I learned a lot about advertising technique. We got very good feedback from this project infarct we placed 3rd in the voting. We often got critiques about getting rid of the logos. I am very proud of this project.

Overall Reflection

I often worked on projects outside of school, I have practiced editing at home to enhance my skills. I found my strength in Art- Direction and creativity, I always put my creative and artistic view within a project. I need to improve on technical skills, such as operating the camera. More practice in this will help me enhance my skills. My classmates was my favorite thing about this year, we bonded so much when creating the feature. One take away is to not take anything for granite. I would like thank Smith for caring so much for us, she puts so much effort for us to have great experiences. E-comm will be something I'll look back to for many years. I had so many wonderful times and experiences throughout the program.

Commercial 2020

 The process of this video started with pre production, where we discussed and decided on a product and ideas. Our concept was a grunge/ punk rock themed lipstick commercial Then once we got our concept we wrote a script and made a story board, then we had to make a call sheet and planned when and where we were going to film. On our film date we just got our props, went to our location and went straight to filming. After we filmed everything I went straight to editing. I worked with others and i went great. First of all we always came to agreement and each one of us had a different role and job. My responsibilities for the project was getting the equipment and editing. During this project I learned some new editing effects like making a 90s grain effect. One thing I would do differently is to be more precise and take more time on my editing. One thing I would do the same is including more art direction in future projects .If I revise the video I will fix my audio and the graphic at the end. I will take these editing techniques to future projects.

Summary

Background

This is my favorite music video and it is for my one of my favorite groups, "Loona". Loona's music videos always are compelling to me because they use a lot of symbolism throughout all of their MVs like the apple and running. This all ties together to the loonaverse , and this is definitely showed in butterfly.

Plot/story

This Music Video showcases Woman around

the world. The plot is kind of hard to understand, as it's more symbolic. I think it symbolizes self love, and breaking out of self hatred.  This was told by woman dancing in various locations, symbols and cinematography.

Contribution in my work

This music video was a huge production and was filmed in 5 different countries. This being in different countries meant having multiple different teams on different locations. This means that communication and collaboration was really important for this. These are actually 2 of are 5 guarantees for ecomm. Collaboration is super important for ecomm, especially the feature film. With all of our roles we both have to communicate with one another and collaborate. These are both skills we have already learned, but we will keep continuing on improving these skills.

What was done well?!

This music video was extremely aesthetically pleasing. The locations that were chosen were beautiful. This Music video was edited really well. I love how they told this story symbolically. Overall this music video is pretty much perfect and I don't think there is anything that could've been better.

Process.

In this project we got to make a short film on a chosen treatment. I choose "Cowardly Reflections". This was a unique script about death. For this film we started with pre- production. We finished the script then started story boards. We then scouted for actors and locations. During this , as art director, I made mood boards and listed props we needed. We pretty much failed at finding actors. Many alternatives were suggested but , I feel like my group just gave up. because of this we didn't end up with a short film. To solve this problem, I ended up making my own shortfilm. This was pretty hard because I did this myself, I even acted. To film it I had to work a lot with the tripod. I got a lot of equipment such as a canon rebel . While working on this i learned how to use this equipment. When I edited I experimented with sound. I tried making some folly to include in my film , I also mastered sequencing.

Reflection

Differently, I would probably choose a different group because they didn't work well. I also would add more to my final film because it was quite short  . I would solve problems like I did for this one the same. From this experience developed problem solving and leadership skills that will help me in the future. I am proud of myself for my work and I hope for better in future project

Entertainment semester 1

Projects

This semester included a lot of projects including a camera assignment, a treatment and a shortfilm.

Camera Assignment.

In this project we got to do any video we wanted as long if it included all the shots needed in the project. We ended up doing a short film titled 'The Watcher". This was a about a man trapped in an alternate reality unaware that its fake. This project took 2 long filming days and about 2 class periods to edit. We faced challenges in scheduling film days, when people couldn't show up. Because of this not everybody showed up to the filming days. Along the way I learned some lighting tricks and got to really know some of the upperclassmen in this class. I was also the editor so I bettered my editing skills on premiere after this project. At the end of this it came out with a lot of errors. Many said they could not follow the story line. There is nothing we changed from the original idea. Overall I'm not the biggest fan of this video although it had some very visually apealing shots and I hAd the most fun on this project this year.

The Watcher

Commercial

Maruchan Commercial

Treatment 

In this project we were required to make a treatment for people to vote for dor the feature film. My story was "Ruby" . This was about a girl who becomes a magical girl during a traumatic experience to fight against sexism. She then befriends other magical girls like her. This took about a week of class to write as I faced some challenges; I struggled finding a good idea but once I found it the writing went smoothly. I learned a lot about story telling and script writing from this project. Many thought it was too hard to make so I got zero votes. I was really proud of this storyline and I hope to use it in the future.

Short film

In this project we get to make a short film on one of those treatments. I choose "Cowardly Reflections". This is taking a lot of time and we still haven't filmed anything because we lost actors. I'm gonna be real honest; I feel like some of my group members have given up and that they don't care about this project. I feel like they are not gonna put any effort to film over break , so ill make a surprise short film myself and with whoever wants to join. This project is teaching me a lot about the importance of pre- production

Strengths and Weaknesess.

During this semester I have learned the most in video that i ever have. At the beggining  I had a lot of struggles , but I have improved quite a bit since then. I mainly struggled with the technical aspect , such as using the microphone and the camera. To improve my skills I plan on playing and messing withe camera more often.

I also felt that the creative aspect was a strength because i feel like I always have ideas running through my head. Next semester I plan to Improve in my strengths by putting my best forward.

Guest speakers

Ryan- Ryan taught us a lot us about storytelling with editing. I can use these tios a lot more in the future.

Gordan- Gordan showed us some really cool equipment that we could use professionally. Ill take his tips and connections in the future

Leah- Leah taught us  some great camera tips. Every time I use a camera i look back to her tips about ISO.

Darby- Darby taught us a lot about pre production. She talked about the importance of social media which goes directly to me because i’m the social media content creator. I will use these tips while working on the feature.

Morgan Cooper- It was a honor to meet morgan cooper. He just casually talked about his life and the film world. He said he could be a connection and gave us a lot of inspiration. Feature role
I have skills with the usage of social media. I am
good at choosing proper hashtags and updating my story. I will also make visually appealing
graphics for the feed. I will put in my full effort to make videos and post to promote our movie.

Summary

This semester i enjoyed the small projects like the commercial the most. To make it better I would like the story telling unit to be smaller with less watching powerpoints and ted talks. I learned a lot about teamwork this semester. Next semester my goal is to try to step into the director role and become a leader.

Graphic Design Final

Projects

Event advertising

In this project we had to pick a musical artist or art artist and make a event! With this event We made a poster, 2 postcards and a ticket. I ended up choosing 3 Kpop artist/groups being: Nct127, Loona and Holland.  This project lasted about 3 weeks. I faced some challenges during this project. The main challenge was going back to adobe photoshop after not using it a while. After some trial in error, I got used to it again. From this project I learned how to integrate graphics from photoshop and graphics from illustrator in one project. During this project, I took a lot of feedback revolving alignment. It was originally left aligned but, Beaoudin suggested it to be center aligned since my graphic was in the center of the poster. Also my friend Caitlyn suggested to use the font "Lemon Milk", so I used it and loved it! I made some changes to the design; the poster was originally just gonna be 3 circles with the artist in it. I changed it to the 3 circles on the sidebar and added a vector graphic in the center.  At the end I thought my work on the poster and ticket was meh. Although I was really impressed with my postcards. If I did a similar design as my postcard on the poster it would be 10 times better! Overall this was a really enjoyable project and I loved sharing something I am passionate about through graphic design! 

 Branding

 In this project we were required to make a personal logo. First we made 30 sketches. With the sketches we were required to make 5 different logos. We had to make many variations with different color schemes. This project took me about a week to complete. The main challenge was converting my sketches to graphics but I eventually figured it out. From this project I learned the importance of trying multiple variations to pick the perfect logo. Some of my friends gave me feedback regarding to color. I took in the feedback and it helped a lot. There were many changes in all the logo from the original idea. It is important to make changes in variations so that you can pick the best one. Overall I was really impressed with most of my logos. They fit me really well and I definitely will use them in the future!

 Vector Portrait.

In this project we had to create a realistic portrait of a pet or family member using the pen tool in adobe illustrator. This project lasted about a week and a half.  The main challenge of the project was that I was new to the pen tool and had to figure out how to properly use it. After this project I mastered the pen and curve tool, and I now feel confident using it. I didn't get much feedback as I was making this; I just kinda figured it out. I did not make any changes from the original idea. I was really proud of this piece and I learned a lot from this project!

Productivity

In this class I'm usually pretty productive. I don't usually finish early but when I do I try to better my skills. For instance: I worked on a whole other vector project. When I have a vision but do not know how to do it, I will google it and try to figure it out.  Outside of class I am involved in lit mag to help get endorsed and better my graphic design skills. I do critique my projects to help improve myself.

Strengths

After being in ecomm for 2 years I have noticed my strengths. One of my strengths is my creativity. I'm always good at coming up with unique ideas. I am also good at using my time wisely and entering a deadline. One strength is that I have developed a style for graphic designs. Most of them have a distinct style that would make you think "Shaylee"

Weakness

With strengths there are weaknesses. The main weakness is the technical side. I don't have access to the adobe products at home so I can still struggle with it. Another weakness is my ability to handle stress. When things go wrong I usually freak out.

Conclusion

My favorite part of graphic design was that in most of the projects you got to pick to do it about something you personally enjoy. In this class I would take away the more tutorial based projects. My goal for next year is to improve my skills in video for entertainment next year.

Movie trailer

Pre-production

At first groups were chosen for us. When we got grouped we watched a bunch of movie trailers that were based in a High School settting. My group ended up chosing the Breakfast club. We then made Beat sheet, script and storyboard. This became very useful for production.

Production

During the production period my group faced a lot of struggles. The main struggle was working around conflicts. Also at the end a lot of actors dropped out and we had to refilm a lot. We ended up efficiently problem solving and the video still looked decent. From these struggles I learned the importance of making a proper schedule.

Post production

Editing went very smoothly for this project . It only took me about 2 hours to edit. I am really getting used to premiere now. ;)

Reflection

This trailer is not my best work but I learned good problem solving skills from this. I am still proud on how this turned out based on my circumstances.

Pre production

At first we had to find a nice high res photo of a family member or a pet. I decided to use a really nice picture of one of my dogs smiling. Ten we had to resize the picture and posterize it so that it would be easy to trace over.

During this production went really smoothly for me. At first it took longer then it needed to but I slowly learned more. After this project I felt like I became a master of the pen and curve tool.

Final Product

I am very proud of my piece. The only thing I would do is change minor details. In all this is my favorite piece from this whole year.

What is the project ?

In this project we were required to choose an existing music video and recreate it shot by shot.

Pre production 

Choosing a MV

First of all we had to choose the music video we wanted to do as a team. This took a while because we all had different taste in music and, it was hard to agree on something . We also had to pick something we had the ability to create. At the end of this we ended up choosing "Young, Dumb and Broke" by Khalid. This was the perfect choice because it takes place in a school and it also had a lot of cool and impressive cinematic shots.

Beat Sheets, Story Boarding and Such

next we had to work together and do a beat sheet, film scape and a story board.We also had to decide where and When we were gonna film.  During tis time my group dreaded doing this , but during the production process it really came in handy.

Production

Filming

For this music video filming took a decent amount of time and a lot of time after school. The reason was it included many locations as well many extras. First of all it took us a bit to find extras that would be willing to utilize their time. Our biggest struggle was being able to film outside due to inclement weather, Because this project ended up being during the snowpocalapse. However we persevered and ended up filming in the cold weather anyway. It was all worth it

Editing

After all the filming I had no class time to edit, so I again had to stay after school a couple of days. This was worth it because I didn't need stress out about finishing in class. During this editing I faced no struggles. I also feel like I have been really comfortable with premier

Overall Reflection

This has been my favorite project so far in ecomm and really proud of the outcome. I am blessed to have such an amazing group with great talents, and im looking forward to working with them. We will enter this in emagine so, im exited to see how that turns out

Typography project

The project

For this project we had to pick four quotes to turn into a piece of typography by changing fonts, colors, stroke, alignment etc. 

Choosing My Quotes/Fonts

The first step in the project was choosing quotes. For this part I decided to look at songs from my favorite artist and musicals and choose the ones that stuck out to me the most. I also had to go find fonts on the website given to us from miss beaudoin. While looking for my fonts I thought of the themes of my songs or musicals. I also looked for some nice simple fonts and downloaded a bunch. When I Was typing out the quotes I would try multiple different fonts too see what looked best.

Production

During this project I didn't learn anything new from illustrator. While arranging my type I basically tried a couple of layouts and did what ever looked best. Working with color was different from working with black and white. for me it was easier because I could control the stroke and text much better.

I'm pretty proud of the finished pieces especially my twenty one pilots and bts quotes. However the other two could be a lot better. I would change the color choices for these two and spend more time and put more detail in my rent quote

 Pop Art

 This project was one of the first project we did.  In this project we had to photograph other students I our class. Then we had to turn it into a pop art themed photograph in adobe photoshop. This took about a week. I felt this project was the easiest. The only thing I struggled with was cropping it at the end. This pretty much stayed the same as my initial idea. The only thing that changed was the background. While making his I learned more about the effects offered in photoshop. At the end I was very happy the way this turned out

Poster Contest

This is a out of school project I worked on for endorsement points. I made this for a civil rights poster contest. This project only took about three hours. While making this I reviewed the skills I made on illustrator from last year.  At the beginning I struggled using it because I didn't remember everything from last year. This changed quite a bit from my initial idea because I tried a bunch of different things and choose what looked the best. I am very impressed with the finished result.

What I have so far :) 

Infographic 

Most recently in class we have been working on infographics. In this project we researched a topic and made and infographic for it. This is a long project because it takes a lot of steps from research, sketches, graphics and the final. I'm yet to be finished with this. I have been working it on about a month and I'm almost complete with the finished graphic. I have changed a lot from my original idea along the way.  In this project I learned how to make proper color swatches and how to use the pen tool. My main weak point in this project was getting too much information and, not being able to lay it out properly. So far I'm really liking how my graphic is turning out :)

How did I use my Time in class

Most of the time I have been quite productive. I usually spit the whole class time to finish projects. Sometimes I got done later so I would come in before school and power 50. Outside of class I would take endorsement opportunities to enhance my skills such as the poster contest, and lit mag. My main strength in this class is project management and my weakness is technical skills.

Final Summary

My favorite thing in this semester was the infographics. One thing I would do differently is to focus less on photoshop. I felt as a lot of those projects were more photography based over graphic design. I mainly learned skills on photoshop. My goal is to always improve my graphics!

Water Color Prints Step By Step

1 -  Crop your project into a good size for your paper then  print !

2 -  Make a water color painting! Make sure you think about color scheme! Let dry!

3.   Put a very thick layer of mod podge on your printed paper, then put it on the painting.

4- Use your squeegee to get rid of excess lumps of mod lodge. Let dry!

5-  Get your fingers really wet and rub your print until your transfer print is completely translucent. Then you rub off all the excess fluff. Let dry and then your done!

My First Feature Story

The Project

 In video we had our first feature story project. We got paired up with a random partner and had to do a story revealing them. My partner was Michael. He opened up to so I ended up doing a feature story on his depression

The process

When we first started the project we had to brainstorm topics. This part was somewhat difficult but we ended up with a good topic. Then we had to come up with questions for the person I was interviewing. Then we went out to fillm the interview and b roll. For me this was the most stressful because we kept on having to refill a bunch , then we ended up running out of time so  my b toll was quite messy. Lastly, it was time for editing and voiceovers. At that point I only had one class time to do all this so I ended up coming to my class throughout the whole day and I actually ended up finishing it. After that we ended up doing re-edits

At  first my final project was really messy and I hated it , but after I tweaked a few things it ended up

Really good. I learned a ton in this project since it was my first feature story. I learned a lot about

Printmaking process

Relief process

In an relief printing, artist would cut out the areas off a surface of the parts they don't need. artist use etching and sketching techniques to convey their art. They would then transfer their piece using a barren.

Steps

1. Images drawn onto surface with pencil

2. use a chisel to carve away all the negative space 

3. Ink is applied to the surface

4. ink is transfered to a piece of paper

       - Use barren (light pressure)

5. Let dry and, then you are done!  :) 

Intaglio Process

  In intaglio printmaking the artist incises into a surface of a plate with tools or acid. Then that plate would be coated with ink. then you would wipe that plate so the ink would only remain only in the incised areas. 

Steps.

1- Ink plate so that its fully covered

2. remove ink from plate

3. place plate in hot surface

4. let it soak
5. remove excess water
6. Transfer ink plate to press
7. Move the press with some pressure
8. Carefully remove the paper, then you're done!

Lithography

Lithography is based on the factors that oil and water do not mix. Areas with moisture repel the oil leaving out the negative space. The inked areas would be transferred to paper with a press.

Steps

1. Draw on stone with at material that contains grease. Ex- litho Crayons

2. Apply Arabic gum to chemically separate the image from the non image area.

3. Roll image on press.

4. Let dry then your'e complete.

A Day in the life at school 

All of us teenagers have to suffer the life of school. We have to wake up at 6 am every week day. School will usually end up exhausting. For me my opinions on school will be similar yo

 everyone else's! So here is my typical day at school.

  My school day starts at 5:55 am where I struggle to get out of bed and get ready. Then I end up rushing to the bus stop at 6:55.  When school starts I only look forward to my electives, but my core classes make me sad. Whenever I get to class I'm always unprepared losings pencils and my 100$ calculator. My least favorite class is history where the teacher teaches us using wikipedia.

  Even though school is usually dragging I enjoy it at the same time. The reason is because I'm surrounded by friends to bring some color in my day. Caitlyn is my best bud to have breakdowns with and eat Taco Bell. I always enjoy talking about boys with Asya, and ally is always chilling with me in trashcan. In, conclusion school can be dull in drawing but I always have amazing people around to make it better.

   

Panorama reflection

In this project we had to take 10 photos and turn them into a panorama collage with a story. For mine I just took random pictures around school. in the project I used blending modes and layer mask to make it flow. After this I feel more confident in using photoshop.

POP ART

What did I do

For my pop art project I choose to use random colors that are appealing. I copied my main layer many times and change all the colors and textures out of the copies and layered them on top of each other.

My inspiration

I waned to do a classic pop-art style inspired by Andy Warhol. He is most famous for his iconic Marilyn Monroe piece. I incorporated his style by using multiple colors and copying the same picture and just changing the color.

Finished thoughts

At the end of the project I was pretty impressed with my work. Although it could of been a little more clean. It matched up with my vision pretty well.

Designing Jared

The Project

The project was to update the model's clothes , hair and background to make him your own. We used images we found off the web and masked them in.

How I incorporated the tools

I used the brush too give Jarod makeup. I used the blending to make it more realistic. I used the mask to give Jarod a cake head, I Also used making to add patterns in the clothes and backround.

with the adjustments I just changed the saturation.

The result 

The result didn't end up like my vision because I changed my plans when finding pictures. My original idea was to do a 90s theme , but then I thought of incorporating

sweets. At the end I was pretty impressed with myself.

Surviving photoshop

The Assignment

In graphic design I was assigned videos to fall along to too learn photoshop skills. I don't have much experience with photoshop so I found the videos quite hard to follow. I took a long time on this project and struggled through it. Even though this was hard I got through it. After all of this I learned a lot and I will probably use these tools in the near future.

The Tools

Content aware

Out of all the tool I found content aware being the easiest. Content aware allowed me getting rid of text in a click of a button. I find this tool very useful and I will use it in the future.

Patch tool

Out of these tools i disliked the patch tool the most. The patch tool allows you to move over content . I struggled the most when trying to use this, and I liked the other tools better for                          covering up stuff.

Clone stamp

I found the clone stamp quite useful. It allowed me to copy other textures and colors and fill in areas with it. sometimes it got quite glitchy but , I was able to work through it.

Healing Brush

The healing brush let you fix small mistakes such as blemishes. Sometimes i found it useless when it came to fixing my own mistakes. Although getting rid of blemishes was very easy with this tool. I don't see my self using this much for graphic design but it can definitely be helpful for editing pictures.

Collage

Out of the project the collage took the longest. Although I learned a lot of useful stuff , like using layer mask. In graphic design  i really do see myself using the layer mask in graphic design.
